Contra

After Contra: The Shooters and Battle Games on This Site

Temple of Boom and Recoil

The nearest things to Contra here. Temple of Boom is a side-scrolling run-and-gun with two-player co-op and traps in a temple; Recoil is a one-button shooter where the gun's kick is how you move. Both are quick to learn and both punish standing still.

Paint Strike, GoBattle and Blumgi Paintball

Arena shooters with a cartoon look. Paint Strike is capture-the-flag with paint; GoBattle is a multiplayer knight brawl with short rounds; Blumgi Paintball is a physics shooter where every shot moves you. Rounds are two or three minutes.

Blumgi Castle and Blumgi Slime

Physics games from the same studio as Blumgi Paintball: launch a ragdoll through a castle, or bounce a slime through traps. Both are about timing a single shot rather than aim.

Bloons TD, King Rugni and War Master

The strategy end of the shelf: tower defence, a castle-defence game and a lane-pushing war game. Play these when the reflexes are tired and the head is not.

Two players, one keyboard

12 Mini Battles 2, Animals Volleyball and the Bad Ice Cream games are built for two people at the same keyboard. Bad Ice Cream in particular is co-op like Contra: the levels are easier together and the arguments are better.
